CHARACTER
Name: Blackiris (Real name unknown. You can randomize him one if you want, but he won’t use it.)
Canon: True Remembrance
Age: 18 (Aged down from early 20s)
Demigod/Hunter/Satyr/Nymph: Demigod
Demigod abilities: Exhibiting so many of Hypnos’ personality traits, Blackiris doesn’t slack off when it comes to powers. While he lacks the ability to actually put people to sleep and putting them in a trance, his skills when it comes to memory are particularly strong. He is able to completely eliminate these, although this works more like stealing rather than outright disappearing. Blackiris must see the memory in question to accurately remove it from the mind of his target. Particularly powerful traumas call for extended treatment, but if the person is aware of what’s wrong, then it only takes a few seconds, and he is capable of putting in a delay so the memory will steadily disappear rather than just vanish in one go. The biggest drawback is the need for eye contact during this procedure, and that he is not able to actually put memories in.

Personality: While Blackiris is not evil, to put it bluntly, he still has some quirks born of his social ineptness that are not easy to stand. He is painfully straight-to-the-point, often correcting people if he thinks they’re not expressing themselves properly, and sometimes even unconsciously pointing out other’s faults, even outright trying to get a rise out of someone now and then (even if it’s La, a character from his canon -- especially if it’s La). To be fair, he will try to rectify things if he thinks he’s gone too far. He’s the sort of person who handles opposition much better than compliance, as that is the only way he’s able to get his own way with emotional ease. While Blackiris can make use of an exceptional poker face, he will often smile mischievously when something amuses him, but this amusement with people doesn’t stop him from shutting himself in his house whenever he gets the chance. All of these faults are fully recognized by him, as he does possess a decent degree of self-awareness. This self-awareness does not extend to his true thoughts, however, as he repeatedly states he doesn’t care about others, even though it’s clear that’s not entirely true. It’s still a good mask to have in his field of work.

He’s not immune to wandering off in his train of thought, and he is repeatedly called out on deliberating too much in his narrations, suffering from major JD syndrome. It is difficult for external stimuli to grab Blackiris’ interest. This, as well as his bizarre personality, seem to be the source of his proficiency as a memory eraser, what with him being able to imitate the complexities of foreign memories. These memories don’t truly die. As someone who has seen so many external memories, and lost so many of his own, Blackiris has been hurt by his job to a great degree, yet still holds the opinion that all of his patients, or people who have otherwise forgotten about him, have not been harmed by his actions. They always forget, after all.

Blackiris has pretty much all the traits you’d expect from a descendant of Hypnos. His mischievousness has been expounded upon, but he also likes his quiet. Spends a good part of his time reading, and states that he wouldn’t mind moving to one of the more isolated parts of the city (and that he would gladly do nothing all day if he could). Sizeable buildings intimidate him, perhaps due to his place of birth. However, coming from such a background did give him a variety of unsavory abilities, such as being a subtle pickpocket, an expert at lockpicking and an above-average shot with a gun.

Blackiris is not proud of his skills. At its heart, it still remains killing the memories of people. The building blocks of a person. Blackiris is deeply philosophical, with a tendency to not appreciate whatever he succeeds in getting. However, despite all the aforementioned faults, Blackiris is sympathetic enough to make friends, assuming they’re ones with a particularly high tolerance for snark.

AU History: Given the obvious circumstances at play, it is difficult to ascertain Blackiris’ race. He looks Caucasian from the Greek side of the family, but his beginnings can only be traced to some of the worst countries in the world. For the first ten years of his life, Blackiris was a child worker at a factory, living an unfulfilling, depressing life within a dark country. Blackiris was not chased out of his home, but actively escaped from it. He spent a long time scraping for money whatever way he could, but one day, was eventually taken in by the camp.

It is here that Blackiris learned of his abilities. The way his mind worked, in particular, made the task of memory erasure a breeze, and in a matter of a few years, Blackiris perfected it. Not content with simply being able to change the surface, Blackiris went through rigorous study, researching the human mind for the entirety of his stay at Camp Half-Blood. This earned him a not-unfounded reputation of being something of a weakling in physical matters, but Blackiris made up for it by exceling in pretty much everything else. He spent a lot of time conflicted, due to not being in a set house, but thanks to one Percy’s actions, he came to be accepted as one of the first members of the Hypnos house once it was founded near the end of his time at camp.

Unfortunately, what he considered to be a stale life eventually came to bore him, and it wasn’t long until Blackiris felt as he once did. Empty. Almost led to death by his own hand, he met an elderly stranger at a decisive time. A complicated couple of days followed, but the distraction was all it took to have Blackiris resume his life, albeit at a much less motivated mindset than before.
Blackiris serves as something of an unofficial psychiatric counselor at camp nowadays. He also accepts business from people with particularly traumatic epic stories (or just anyone with knowledge of the camp and memories they don’t want), accumulating funds for his approaching departure from camp. He typically meets clients just outside the borders for a short time, but every once in a while is forced by the times to take on less official business.

Counselor: If possible, I’d like for Blackiris to be the Hypnos cabin counselor. Says in the cabin page that Gabriel already took that spot, but I think that may be wrong, given he’s from Iris.

SAMPLES
Iris Message: A friend of mine lost something.

[It’s very rare to see Blackiris actually talking through Iris. About as rare as it is for one of his external clients to lose something within the camp. Blackiris has no idea how this one in particular found out, given his custom of deleting their memories of coming here in the first place, but regardless of the sequence of events, Blackiris knows the exact path his client took while here, but not the actual appearance of the object.]

It’s a watch. A pocket watch. Very stylish. Modern.

[Sarcasm is as good a way to cope as any.]

If you see anything that looks particularly futuristic for the camp, please feel free to contact me at the Hypnos cabin. Thanks.

Third Person Log: That has to be one of the few times I don’t feel guilty about yawning in the middle of the day. You’d think lethargy would be the last trait a camp would encourage.

Blackiris has been in the Hypnos cabin for a while now, but it isn’t until you receive the position of counselor that you feel a need to make new members feel at home by displaying a personality they’re most likely comfortable with. Being descended from the god of sleep, Blackiris can’t help but find amusing the paradox of working hard by lazing around.

I’m probably misinterpreting my obligations here… but would it be that far a stretch, with how strange this place has gotten?

By now, the book in Blackiris’ hands keeps getting read, but only in the most basic sense of the word. His eyes follow the routine of advancing through the rows of Greek at a steady pace, but none of it actually registers, pushed away by Blackiris’ own inner thoughts.

It’s actually intriguing that they would choose a person who has gotten less dedicated as of late for this, but Blackiris supposes it has something to do with the seniority within his particular demographic. In any case, it’s not much of a risk. Disappointment or not, he’ll be out of here soon enough.
